The Schools Choose 2 Re-Use Scheme was set up two years ago, the aim is to engage young people in an activity that involves recycling textiles and clothing and helps raise funds for their school or chosen charity.
We hope to raise young people’s awareness of recycling, the processes involved, the markets for recycled clothing and the social and environmental impact for the local community.
Below are examples of promotional leaflets designed by pupils who take part of this scheme pupils from St. Davids created these;
St. Davids High School Promotional Leaflets for Schools Choose 2 Re-Use
What does it involve?
Schools are asked to collect donations of good quality re-useable textiles including; clothing, shoes, handbags, belts, scarfs, hats, bed linen and curtains. Pupils from the school are encouraged to take part in promoting the collection by designing a promotional leaflet which we then produce for them to take home to family members, friends and relatives to explain all about the items we collect and the date they are to bring the items to school by.
This helps pupils develop IT skills and widens knowledge of promotions and promotional presentation.
On the day of collection pupils are able to take part by helping weigh the items collected, which helps pupils with their application of number skills, numeracy, calculations, and weighing procedures.
They work as part of a team, and learn the importance of Health and Safety procedures required during the collection of clothing.
Volunteering Opportunities
Pupils are offered the opportunity to volunteer with us to see where the items they have collected go to by visiting our warehouse in Saltney. On arrival they will be shown around the warehouse and learn about the sorting and grading of textiles, they will be able to take part in sorting the items they have collected into various categories.
Pupils will learn about Health and safety within a working warehouse environment, the people who benefit from stock that cannot be resold and how unusable stock is recycled.

A visit to our retail outlet
Pupils are also invited to then visit our retail outlet in Shotton, Re-Dressed where they can further get involved with the preparation of clothing to be sold, learn about customer service and see the whole process through to the sale of items.
Pupils will learn about the preparation of clothes for the shop floor, maintaining and rotating stock levels, the importance and benefits of merchandising and how to maximize product sales.
Benefits
Our aim is to ensure that once the day is over they understand the whole process, become more aware of recycling and understand the basics of a not for profit organisation and where the money goes and who benefits.
Rewards
Every school is awarded with a certificate of achievement to show the amount of textiles they have diverted from landfill. The school will then be presented with a cheque for monies raised during the collection, we pay an agreed price per kilo, the more you collect, the more money you raise!!!!
